Inscribed Within
In the beginning, God declared “Let there be light!” (Gen. 1:3) In that one statement, we see that He created the world through His Eternal Word. When He spoke, He thus stamped into the universe MEANING. Beauty. Symbolic order. A river symbolizes cleansing. A seed symbolizes growth. Light symbolizes clarity and truth. These images have inspired poets and storytellers, since culture began. When taken together, these images coalesce into what mankind has always called a story. Every story that has ever been told speaks to the heart of man to help him understand these images, as well as his own story.
Saint Matthew tells us that Jesus Himself understood these images and “revealed things hidden since the foundation of the world.” (Mt. 13:35) That is why he spoke in parables - because He knew that man was looking for the truth about himself in the stories that he told. This is why people love movies and books like The Lord of the Rings, Star Wars, or Harry Potter. Within these stories, we are trying to work out our own stories. We are trying to “reveal truths hidden since the foundation of the world.”
This at last brings me to the purpose of this blog - to unveil the truths that are found within the stories of our culture. Truth that are inscribed within our hearts, our very universe, and our culture.
